
UI Focused Games Development
My final year project at university was called UI Focused Games Development.
Research into UI focused games and UI focused gameplay elements in different genre games to understand what works, what doesn’t, why and in what circumstances to create 2-3 enjoyable UI focused game demos. The games are then given feedback to access whether players enjoyed the UI focus in the games.
UI is always overlooked as the 'layer on top of the game with the information' but I want to meld the UI with the gameplay. UI embedded into the gameplay gives more of an overall gaming experience and doesn't take away immersion, this is why I wanted to create the games mechanics using the UI. Information normally displayed on UI will be incorporated into the gameplay and into the mechanics themselves for some of the games for example.
UI being embedded into the gameplay and the games ideas themselves will be added to feedback, showing that UI can be used in more creative and immersive ways while still creating enjoyable games and that a level of UI can still be enjoyable too.
